Storm of a different color

“Have you ever seen anything like it?” Oliver asked. He looked out on the horizon then back at his new car from the covered porch.

“Nope,” Al said as he got as close to the porch railing as he dared.

The big green bullfrogs had been raining down for ten minutes already. They smacked against the gutters and got hung up in the trees before they flopped to the ground. Their broken limbs tried to hop but it was more like a strained push than anything else.

“When do you suppose it will stop?” Oliver said.

Al settled into one of the mildew covered plastic chairs and took a long draw on the beer he had started earlier. It was warm but the flies weren't bothering it. “Don't know,” he said after his moment of reflection.

“Do ya think it's doing this in Calaveras county?”

Al smiled. “We could go for a drive and find out.”

Oliver cringed as a particularly large one broke his windshield and slid down the cherry red finish to the ground. He settled into a chair next to Al's. “Maybe later.”

Very clever title and story!

I really like short #fridayflash stories and this one is great. Warm beer (that the flies hadn't bothered yet - what a great detail!) and a frog storm. . . sounds good to me!

Oh, I could picture this perfectly...lol, poor frogs! I think the deeper message here is finding contentment even when frogs are falling from the sky and smashing into your new car. Thanks for the chuckle! :-)

Great reference to Calaveras county. Thanks for the brillant images on a foggy Friday morning.

Aaron, I was wondering how many people would pick that reference up.

Very nice. You could make it the "Plagues of Calaveras County" series.

I see that frog legs will be on a few menus that night.

I've always been fascinated with the plague of frogs thing-- how weird is that, seriously? The images here just woke it all up for me. love it!

Jeremy, next week they could be pelted by goofy looking straw hats.

Cate, I think some of them croaked in the fall.

Nat, I actually tried to work that into the story, but it looked forced so I took it out.

Katey, anything to help. :)

"First frogs, then we had them big crickets everywhere..."

"Them was locust, not crickets."

"Whatever. Now I got this daggum rash...rickits, I reckon."

"No, those are boils. Nasty ones, too."

"Well hell. What's next, hail and fire at the same time?"

"Don't ask for it if you don't want it."

Jeremy, you can write the sequel. *chuckles to self*

lol! It's supposed to rain here tonight. I hope we have regular rain. :)

K.C., I hope if it isn't frogs that it doesn't rain cats and dogs either. And as long as it doesn't fall as snow.
