Getting closer

Sony launched two new e-readers today. The $299 model with a 6 inch touchscreen and the one I am excited about for $199 with a five inch screen. They are getting closer to where I might actually spend money on one, just another 50-100 dollars to go (I don't know if they will ever get that cheap but a man can dream, can't he?) I am also excited that they plan on actually selling them in stores (you mean I get to see, touch, read them before I buy? What is up with that?)

All of this makes me almost giddy with excitement as it opens up a whole other world of possibilities for publishers and writers alike. What do you think. Are you excited about the new technology?

See, I told you I was going to be a better blogger. Happy Wednesday.

I'm excited, but I'm with you on the price reduction. I could use another $50 off the top...though, that $199 model is starting to look tasty...

Aaron- they are getting there. I paid $250 for my first DVD player, I bought my last one for 50 bucks and it does more with a better picture.

I'm excited. I love the idea of having multiple pieces of work at my fingertips. That said, I'll NEVER give up all my PB's and HB's.

I'm still waiting for

a) ereaders to be released in Australia

b)for my ereader of choice to support most of the electronic data formats

c)the price to come down at least another $50US.

Then I'll consider buying one. It would help me immensely if these three points could be met. I'm not good at lugging around armfuls of books.

Nice to here they'll be sold in shops though. No way I'd buy one without the opportunity to try it first. A good step forward.

I think computers run on magic, and I have always thought highly of magic.

Excited? Well, not the same kind of excited I get when there's a new zombie movie coming out, but interested enough to think vaguely of buying one. It would be nice to take to the park with the kiddos. My son is starting to get old enough that he doesn't want to play with me constantly.

Jameson- I would never get rid of my book collection either, but there are a lot of books I know I will never read again.

BT- I have been leery of them because I couldn't read them as well. I can think of a hundred reasons not to buy one and a couple of reason to.

Nat- I won't tell you any different.

Carrie- i like sitting at the park and watching my kids play without me. I am no good on the monkey bars anymore.

I'm with you. I love it when technology finally gets priced to the reach of the common man (or woman).

I knew I should have waited a little longer to get a reader! I do love the red Sony ereader I bought in February or thereabouts, though.

I'm glad the price for readers is coming down. The lower the reader price, the more people who will start buying ebooks.

Alan & K.C.- and the more market they will take and make their authors and publishers. :)

I'm with BT.

They need to freaking come to Australia first. And I want to touch and play with one before I hand over too much cash.

It's interesting watching the industry continually warm up to ebooks. I'm not quite there yet, but one day I'll probably be reading from a screen, I have no doubt.

I like the Sony (the Kindle comes with too much drama, I think), but I'm kind of holding out for $99...give it another year or so, I bet.

Benjamin- That is actually my biggest problem. I don't know what they look like to read.

Angela- someday it will be the standard I have a feeling. Not unlike broadband internet.

Jeremy- that is my guess as well.
