Like a hammer in the back of the head

So I was outside working in my shop last night, painting the last of my trim (most of the trim in my house is stained but we decided for a brighter look in the basement and went with paint). As I was brushing with long strokes to keep it all even and thinking of some short stories that I had started but was having a hard time keeping going. I think the ideas were too big for a short story. It helps that I could incorporate several of them into one longer narrative. This actually got me excited that I might be thinking of another book idea (I am a little mad that it is only months away from NaNo at this point, because I am still doing the dark romance for my NaNo project) I am wondering if I can hash out a first draft of this idea before November starts and if I will be burned out by then.

Am I the only one having a hard time keeping a short narrative in my head?

Heh. Ironic. I took a break from writing hint fiction stories to read your post.

My story ideas are either coming in very short form (flash or shorter) or too long for a short story form (novella or longer).

Must. Finish. Novel. First.

Jeremy- indeed.

Aaron- I am curious to see how long this one fleshes out at.

I always have a hard time keeping my ideas short. I'm long-winded like that.

My nano project also came from a bunch of short stories that just weren't working for me, weirdly enough. Maybe that's what's happening in the nano zeitgeist this year...

Should be fun!

I've gone through phases where none of my ideas stay short *lol* its always good to have some book ideas knocking around! : )

yeah, if i don't put an idea to paper soon after i get it, the story falls somewhere in my mind's black hole. gone gone gone.

I'm always convinced I have a longer story and then the words prove me wrong.

I had an image of you wobbling on a ladder and then falling off shouting, 'Eureka'.

I can relate. I'm impatiently waiting at the moment.

My new motto is: Too many novels, too @!%*ing little time.

Does that answer your question?

Katey- Here is to NaNo!

Nat- this is definitely one of those phases.

Samantha- you are not alone with the black hole theory, I think I lost three stories last night.

Cate- Usually I am pretty dead on with my word estimates, we shall see. I have had a couple of surprises.

Danielle- Then let us wait impatiently together. :)

Carrie- I may have to make that a poster to hang above my desk.

Count me in there with you. It's all about the longer work at the moment and any idea I have seems to have a scene version which is only part of a longer piece.

It's a little frustrating, but at least we're still writing.

BT- I hear you loud and clear. It is a conspiracy I tell you, a conspiracy!
