Out of my hands, for now

Last night my lovely and talented wife, Ann, finished looking through my manuscript for Big Chief's Gold. This morning I went over her suggestion (and the obvious typing errors, more about that in a minute) and sent it off to my lovely and talented beta-readers. Thanks guys *waves*.

Now a thing I figured out about my word processing program. I had a character named Pat. Pat is a boring name and I needed to change it. I hit the select all button, changed the name (it was supposed to use exact case only) and it changed every word with Pat in it, like PATh, aPAThy. . .not good. I didn't think anything of it. I told it to use exact case, nothing else. I will never do that again, nor will I ever name a character Pat again. I was glad my wife caught it. Although she said it confused her at first to have a proper name in the middle of random letters like aDerrickhy, that made no sense in the context of the sentence. Lucky for me my wife is smarter than I am.

Now I am going to go off and continue writing other things. Happy weekend everyone.

ADerrickhy. That is FUNNY. Mostly because I've done it before too.

Carrie, I am glad I am in good company then. :)

Yikes...I've done that before, too...after a few years of programming and blowing up thousands of lines of code in one fell swoop, I learned to put leading and trailing spaces on those words...doesn't always cure it, but it helps.

Thanks Jeremy, that is a good tip.

Ah, search and replace. Mine won't acknowledge punctuation that occurs within quotes. Nothing like going back to doublespace page after page of periods : P

Too funny. I learned that mistake in a short story. :D

I too have made the same mistake. I feel your pain. Congrats on finishing your draft, though. That's a good feeling, sending it off into beta land!

Nat- is there any problem you don't have with that WP program?

Cate- it was only a couple of instances, but still-

Katey- I have never been more nervous in my writing life.

Yeah...I think we've all been there.

Aaron- I could write a book about the dumb things I have done. It would start out "My earliest memories are of trying to put a pair of scissors in the wall outlet. . ."

Ah yes, that's happened to me many times. You'd think any decent word processor would ask if you wanted to change the whole word or just part of one, but they all seem to have the same glitch.

The last time this happened to me, I changed a character's name from Dominic to Theodore. It wasn't a problem except that one character called him Dom, so I ended up with a lot of words like kingTheo and boreTheo.

K.C.- That is funny.
