Good Weekend

I have to say, in between the kids whining and not sleeping and the housework and everything else we like to call life, I had a good weekend.

I managed to get a window replaced in the boy's bedroom (we still don't know how it broke) and change the oil in the van. We got two year pics taken of the boy and some pretty cute pics of both kids together. We had good pizza (if you are ever in Des Moines you need to go to The Tavern, they have 3 locations) and I visited a bookstore that didn't have the book I was looking for. Talked to a guy who makes pens for a living (they aren't cheap but they sure are pretty) and managed to visit the mother in law where she made us an awesome dinner. To top it all off I got my 3rd acceptance for the year. (Yippee!)

I finally sold Wine For Two. This is a story that Crazyhorse magazine held on to for 9 months (maybe it was ten. I will have to look). It sold to Ruthless People mag. It is an unconventional story with a haunting and a love story and nothing at all like anything else I have ever written. It is also the only story I have written that my wife genuinely likes, if that tells you anything.

Still riding the high and have a lot of work to do this week. Maybe this will be the week that I finish the first draft of my still untitled novella. Have a great Monday.

Congrats on the acceptance! Very nice! Sounds like you had a really good weekend too, which is great (although an acceptance always makes the days seem a little brighter, too).

I would have had a good weekend without it, but yes it made it a little brighter. Hope you enjoyed your new 'book' this weekend. :) My wife and I talked about them while in the car. I don't think we are ready for one yet.

Congrats...I hadn't heard of that mag until I downloaded it yesterday to read Aaron's story. I like the little warnings they put before each story.

Whoot! Congratulations! Sounds like a very nice weekend, with or without the nod from RPM, but acceptances are sweet.

Jeremy- It is an interesting self-ratings system they have in place. Seems to be some nice stories in there too.

Aaron- It was a very nice weekend. I hope your birthday went well. And because acceptances are sweet- Acceptances for everyone this week!

My mom's side of the fam lives right outside of Des Moines, so I may just have to have pizza there sometime. Maybe we could meet. I'd be the one dressed as a ninja.

Congrats on the sale!

Cate- thanks and you too! :)

Carrie- My wife and kids would like to have dinner with a ninja. Just let me know when you will be in the area.

Nat- Thanks to you as well.

Congrats again. Looking forward to reading it. You, my friend, seem to me to be a renaissance man of sorts. If I knew the first thing about the attic stairs I need to replace, or the rotten planks on the front porch I need to replace, or the cracked paint I need to refresh, AND I liked to write stories as well, well then... I guess I'd be one too.

But I'm not. But I'm not. I'm unfortunately at the mercy of general contractors.

Sadly, there isn't a whole lot I haven't undertaken. It makes for very little down time. ;)

Congratulations on the acceptance. Great news.

See, I knew there was a reason behind my delay in critiquing this story - it obviously didn't need any changes.

Congratulations!

Thank you Danielle. Keep going on those flash stories. You might find them strangely addictive.

BT- I appreciate you taking the time to be my extra eyes. I am kind of like my dog, blind in one eye and can't see out of the other when it comes to my stories.
