WIP Wednesday, kind of-

I have had a slump of sorts. Sure I have worked and finished 2 (maybe three, I haven't decided if one is complete enough to be called a story yet, even flash) stories this month and I feel very unproductive. The first story took me ten days to write and was only 3900 words long. The second was only 371 words long and took me all day, a writers day, not a normal persons day.

Now, this morning I am trying to come up with a short story idea and I have three different tabs on my monitor, all are shorts, none are finished and I think they will all be deleted without being saved before I leave the computer this morning. Mostly because they not only suck, but they aren't going anywhere.

I am considering starting another book at this point. The other idea is to leave the rest of the month be and just read instead of write for a couple of weeks because the writing is going nowhere.

Now for something I have tinkered with this morning:

Still, I am finding it oddly relaxing, sitting here. Listening to the worms as they edge closer. Tiny scratching sounds like millions of tiny fingers working against the earth. So small, but in unison they could move the planet, change it somehow.
Even now I can feel the thump of footsteps above me. They walk with impunity, thinking little of what they are on and caring not, for the dead can't know.

I like that snippet. It's an interesting juxtaposition of the calm narrator and the horrific setting. I love stuff like that.

Two, maybe three, stories this month is nothing to sneeze at. If the words aren't coming, though, spending some time reading is always good therapy. Sometimes you have to recharge the writing batteries.

K.C.- That is kind of what I am thinking, my batteries just need a boost.

The word "impuntiy" screams Poe. Love it.

Nice snippet-- that one's surely going somewhere!

a writers day, not a normal persons day.
So well articulated. Ha!

But yeah, 2 or 3 stories in a month that's only half over is pretty damn impressive. I get frustrated when I feel like everything's puttering out at the end though-- happens enough to make me crazy. Sympathies.

Aaron- I like the direction that could take. :)

Katey- We are the only people in the world who get to stare at a blank wall and call it work.

You're being too hard on yourself. I usually find I'll have a few ideas that are going nowhere and then bam! something most wonderful comes along.

Cate- No, I think I am right on track this time. I might be wrong (which would make you right).

I'm never right.

I just took a marketing seminar from Matt Schwartz, and he says never to delete anything! Throw it up later on your blog or website as new content. So they're *not* not going anywhere...they're just going to go under the "extras" tab when you're rich, famous, and have a hungry fan base.

...Is that a cynical raised eyebrow that I sense?

Cate- I will let you know. ;)

Mercedes- I saved them, for now. I Still don't know where they are going, but they aren't going in the trash right away.

Personally, I think those worms are keepers. Not like I'd invite them to dinner or anything, but I liked it. :)

I liked the sniplet! And two to three stories kicks butt. I'm still trying to write a second one! Something about all the rain has me "off" this month.

I think when you're feeling this way it's often good to start something new and fresh.

Carrie- Definitely the strongest of the 3 I was working on.

Nat- better than previous months, still doesn't feel right.

Danielle- that is what i am trying to do, and failing miserably. November is just around the corner and then I will be wading into my NaNo project with hip-waders on.
