Little book review

I can't believe I finished another book (reading that is, not writing). Tom Piccirilli's book The Cold Spot was, seriously a' can't put it down' type of book. If you like crime novels, then you should read it. I am a huge fan of the genre myself. If you don't like crime novels, read it anyway.

I am not going to say much of the plot but it reads like an action movie and I think I have figured out why.

This entire book reads like a short story. I think this is quite possibly the first novel I have read that does so, at least in my memory. There is not a wasted paragraph, phrase, or word in the whole book. Any single part, if taken out of it, would have yielded a lesser story. It is no wonder that this book is up for an Edgar this year. I am curious to see how Christina Faust's story, that is also nominated for an Edgar, holds up.

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I am planning on it.

Thanks greatly for the generous comments on TCS. Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you'll give a go to the sequel THE COLDEST MILE, on shelves now.

I have struggled to find a crime novel that I liked. Perhaps Piccirilli's work will finally change my mind.

I have 'All you Despise' Piccirilli's novella from Shroud, Jamie. I'll let you know how that goes when I get further down my 'to read' pile.

I read Midnight Road last year I think, and I enjoyed the mix of supernatural and thriller.

I've only read one of Tom Piccirilli's books and that was "A Choir of Ill Children" which I enjoyed. Will put this on my list of books to buy though.

I do like crime novels. Actually, I took a class on them in college. That was a FUN class.

I don't think you will be disappointed by this book.

Nat- thanks for the link.

Carrie- the coolest lit class I took in college was Science fiction lit at Iowa State. Followed by traveling lit (travels with charlie and the like) at University of Nebraska at Omaha.
