Now iz ze time on Sprockets ven ve danse

I am doing a jitterbug right now. Not only did I receive a copy of Sand #3 yesterday in the mail (great little mag with a story by our own J.C. Tabler) but I managed to shoot off an order for our very own Felicity Dowker's chapbook "Phantasy Moste Grotesque" this morning. Something tells me if you don't order this thing in the next day or so you will be looking for used copies on ebay after it comes out, at a premium.

See, the postman does bring good news.

The novella is coming along great. At this point I think I am on Chapter 15 which mean I think I have 5 or 6 to go. (maybe I will finish by the end of the week) I managed to get in another 1700 words yesterday which is really good for me. Kind of like reading a book in only a week. I am about to open up a giant turning point in the story and I can't wait to see what my other characters think of the revelation. (Does anyone else find it odd that they become real, at least for the time you are working on them?)

The boy is crawling on me and the fog has lifted, for now, so I better grab a cup of coffee and get going.

Its not odd. I think they always feel real, especially when the story is good! : )

Ah! I got a copy of Neil Shushterman's 'Unwind' in the post today and I can't wait to read it. I also have a ton more books on order.

Nat- I would like to think it is the sign of good characters. ;)

Cate- Never read anything by him. I suppose I will have to add yet another author to the list.

Oh, and in regards to your title:

"Look at my monkey! Love him!"

Wait...you mean people are going to read that story other than me?

Oh man...well, at least nobody'll review it. Or mail a copy to my wife, because I sure as hell hid the contributor copy that came in the mail yesterday.

Excellent news on the wordage front - you're killing me this week - I've done bugger all.

If characters feel real, then you know them. The issue is making sure you convey that on the page. Get that right and you're on a winner.

I love that feeling about characters. Sounds like things are coming along very nicely.

Ooh, you're getting so close to finishing! And yeah, the "real-characters" syndrome is a good sign. :)

I always feel disappointed when the fog lifts, although I know you're probably sick of it. We've had a cyclone swirling up north which was headed for us and luckily now seems to have dropped to a category 3. We're getting plenty of rain and wind though - good writing weather I think.

Yes, it makes it hard to kill 'em off sometimes . . .
