Sorry, been busy

I really have been busy. I have been writing in every free minute I can get my hands on. The only reason I am not writing now is because I find the theme music to Dora the Explorer that is in the background a little distracting. I find the classic tunes from Tom and Jerry to be much better for writing.

Part of the reason I have been writing so much is that I have found a character I can not only relate to a little but I want to see what he will do when I throw adversity at him. I have also re-found my writing spot. I don't know why the stone hard chair in my bedroom at the tiny antique desk is the best spot for me to write. I have a perfectly comfortable chair that swivels and has a cushion and a massive desk next to a large picturesque window that I am at right now that seems just fine, but it doesn't work for me.

I think of On Writing by Mr. King and the tiny closet he tapped away on for years pounding out manuscripts. Maybe we are destined to like dark confined spaces. It seems to breed creativity and corrals our wandering minds.

I should rip your arm off and beat you severely for that, Barry.

Man, I'm going to need a new man cave this summer (the sister-in-law is doing an internship in town and stealing mine for a bedroom). I hope I can find my own stone hard chair without a view.

Happy writing, Jamie.

Aaron, just set up a small table in the furnace room. Dark, depressing, and full of little bugs that you don't see until they crawl on you. Happy writing to you as well.

I don't write at my desk as much as I write in other parts of the house. Darker spaces are more interesting :)

I spend too much time twirling in my swivel chair. Room looks out on a brick wall though so I win there.

Danielle, so you write in that little nook under the stairs?

Cate, how can you not swivel? That is what the swivel part is for. You would hate to waste it.

I'm listening to Dora right now. Not on purpose. So yeah, I feel your pain. And I'm going to rip Barry's OTHER arm off and beat him with it.

My mom tells me a story of some famous writer she likes--I'm embarrassed that I don't know who, except that it may be May Sarton--who found herself staring out the window over her desk so often instead of writing that she got a windowshade and painted the same view on it. Since it never changed, she wouldn't stare at it and she got more done.

Me, I count staring-out-the-window time as an important part of writing. :)

I like my comfy chair, except when I wear shorts. Leather hurts : P

Carrie, I believe that Dora is actually the devil incarnate. Really.

K.C., there is something about staring out a window and watching life go by that is mind-numbingly calming.

Nat, so do I, but not when I am trying to write for some reason.

Yeah, too much sunlight definitely burns the creativity out of me. Mostly because I just want to sit and uselessly daydream :D

Yay for characters who grab you by the throat!
